Frenulectomy
A tongue-tie can make feeding unexpectedly difficult for a new baby — frenulectomy is a quick, well-established fix. A frenulectomy (or frenotomy) releases the tight band of tissue beneath an infant's tongue that restricts movement, often called tongue-tie (ankyloglossia), and is used when tongue-tie is interfering with effective breastfeeding or bottle feeding.
It's a brief, in-office procedure that typically takes about a minute and does not require anesthesia; babies are usually comforted with feeding immediately afterward. It can improve latch and feeding effectiveness and reduce discomfort for both baby and parent, though some improvement may take one to two weeks to become noticeable.
